Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale against E6850 Conroe

The new 45nm CPU with new HIGH-K technology reduces gate leakage and heat. Lets compare 45ns E8400 ES VS. 65nm E6850 in benchmarks, video compression, overclocking, and power consumption.


Memory Bandwidth Tests

Because the larger L2 cache size, the speed of E8400 L2 is slower than E6850 L2 (5.1ns VS.3.4ns). It causes slower memory read bandwidth but benefits memory write and copy. We can see the speed of E8400's memory read is less than 2% but memory write is 16% faster than E6850. As result, overall E8400 memory copy is still 5.5% faster.
